The Amazing Transformers Movie Review

For those of you who remember watching the 80’s animated cartoon Transformers, you will be very happy to find out a movie will soon be released featuring all the Autobots and Decepticons you remember from that time. You will also be happy to find this Transformers movie review highly recommends seeing the movie. Transformer review 2007 indicates that this transformer movie is very well written. The special effects are amazing and very believable.

If you grew up watching Transformers in the morning before school and then again in the afternoon you will absolutely enjoy this film. For those of you who are new to the concept you will find the Transformers 2007 movie review good enough to entice you to the theatre to discover for yourself what all the hype is about.

This live action transformer movie is going to take the prize for the best action movie of year, maybe even the best action movie that has ever been made. For the very beginning of the Transformers movie you will be entranced. It starts out with the both the Autobots and the Decepticons living in peace on Cybertron.

The war begins after the leader of the Decepticons, Megatron, finds out about the power of the cube. The cube is a vital item because all life forms are derived from it. Megatron wants to take the power from the cube so that he can transfer all the life of Earth into his own Transformer. He left Cybertron when it got destroyed in the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

The cube fell to Earth which is why all the Autobots and Decepticons ended up there. The Autobots came to save Earth from the hands of Megatron. Of course he came there to take over the entire Earth.

I have to tell you about one specific part of the show in this Transformers the Movie review. Sam has a cell phone that gets turned into a Transformer. Probably the best thing about the Transformers movie is the action scenes. It is very hard for me to explain to you in this Transformer movie review just how brilliantly done they are. You will absolutely love the final fight of the movie. It takes place in the middle of Los Angeles.

The Transformers themselves are very well done. There are a few differences from the original animated cartoon but I think you will find them for the better. I don’t want to give any secrets so I will just tell you Megatron has an amazing look you don’t want to miss.

There are plenty of other changes as well. For example Bumblebee used to be a Volkswagen Beetle. In this live action Transformers movie Bumblebee takes on the form of the 2008 Chevy Camaro that isn’t on the market yet. Optimus Prime is still an amazing semi truck, and Ratchet is a Ambulance. The voices of the Transformers are very powerful and they are a good replica of the original programming from the early 80’s.

By now you realize this is a very positive Transformers movie review but I can’t help it. Some remakes are best not done, but Michael Bay really did a marvellous job of taking the Transformers to the big screen. If you are worried about being the oldest person in the theatre don’t be – the average age group is between 21 and 40.

The Transformers movie really kept the audience at the edge of their seats for the entire show. People were really into it, even applauding and yelling at one point. I am planning to go see the movie again next week. If you only make it to see one movie this year, make it Transformers. I will be back before you know it to give you the Transformers Movie review for Transformers 2!

The Devil's Advocate Movie Review

I have to confess to having a soft spot for movies where the story revolves around the Devil appearing on Earth to engage in his either evil and/or mischievous doings. In "The Devil's Advocate", Al Pacino does his turn as the latter; a mischievous, naughty boy-style devil who is nonetheless very intelligent, articulate and always on the ball. It's a real pleasure to watch him having fun with this part, especially as his foil, Keanu Reeves, plays the straight man in this encounter as the young hot-shot lawyer who gets sucked in to the Devil's playbook. It was a stroke of brilliance that director Taylor Hackford chose to use the law as the outlet for the Devil's work; in this case on the side of defence where the more nefarious characters in society are likely to be set free (all as part of the Devil's plan). "The Devil's Advocate" is a dark, sometimes amusing but nonetheless entertaining Devil story with some standout performances, starting with none other than Al Pacino himself.

Keanu Reeves stars as the hot-shot lawyer Kevin Lomax who will do anything to win every case. In the opening sequence, he is defending a man whom he discovers to be guilty. But instead of doing the right thing, he does his job to perfection, getting the otherwise guilty man acquitted. This catches the eye of Al Pacino's Devil who invites him to join his law firm in New York. This is the beginning of a dark, downward journey for Lomax as he slowly but surely gets spun in to the Devil's web, a point he doesn't truly appreciate until his wife played by Charlize Theron inexplicably commits suicide after being tormented by images of the Devil.

Al Pacino is the reason to watch this film. He commands the screen from start to finish, and is clearly having a lot of fun with the part. His final monologue where he's explaining to Keanu about what God is really like is hilarious. What makes his Devil different to other on-screen portrayals of the character is that he actually doesn't force anyone to do anything. He can only influence which brings up the theme of throwing the ultimate responsibility of evil deeds back on to us as humans for allowing the Devil's influences to guide our behaviour. It's a wonderful take on the character, and allows him to be more three dimensional; as portrayed by Pacino, the Devil is evil, but he's more naughty and mischievous, and you can actually see his point. Maybe God is playing us all for fools. And as Al Pacino's Devil would have you believe, at least he's talking straight with you.

Keanu Reeves is surprisingly good in his role as Kevin Lomax, having to carry the film for the bulk of proceedings. He's really playing the straight man who gets drawn in to this extraordinary situation, and he actually holds his own against Pacino. He plays him with a lot of internal conflict as he slowly realises that his own ego and vanity are destroying everyone around him that he loves. It is through him that we get the human perspective of what is right and what is wrong. As the Devil says to him at one point after his wife's suicide, "you could have saved her at any time. It was in your power to do so... but in the end, you loved someone more... yourself!"

The film is glorious to look at. The use of time-lapse photography in certain sequences is rather disturbing, giving an almost other-worldly feel to the narrative, particularly as most of them book-end encounters with the Devil. A scene on top of the Devil's office building is also magnificent; with the rooftop actually not having a readily visible edge making for a great sense of vertigo, not to mention opulence with the watery surface. There's also a rather eerie scene towards the end of the film when a New York street is devoid of any life whatsoever (except for Keanu). Atmospheric shots like this, combing with a creepy musical score add a lot to the overall experience of the film.

"The Devil's Advocate" is gripping, entertaining and dark with a touch of humour. It's a great film with a memorable performance from Al Pacino as the ultimate bad guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 2 Aug 2008
There are many people that would gladly shut down this film saying it's surrounded by unjust hype simply because it's the last role of Heath Ledger. I have to say that a statement such as this couldn't be anymore false. Sure, the hype was bigger due to the untimely death of Ledger. But it was a movie and a role (Joker) that delivered on all levels. Batman Begins introduced us to the troubled man that is Bruce Wayne and told the story of how he becomes The Batman. Batman Begins, although very well put together and the story being told brilliantly; I found that at times it had moments when it would drag. The Dark Knight repairs those problems and gives us a movie of equal length, which manages to hold my attention throughout. My review will be split into three sections. The story, characters and verdict. This is to give you, the reader a fair and open opinion of the movie for which you can place your own opinion.

The Story: A year after the chaos caused by Ra's Al Ghul, the Batman has become a symbol in Gotham for all citizens. It's a symbol to show that nobody needs to be afraid when confronted with the criminal underworld of Gotham. This is a problem for Batman as it's created a lot of copy cat vigilantes. Unfortunately, the copy cat's attempts don't go as well as the Batman's attempts do. Batman has inspired even the law to fight against the mob underworld as the new District Attorney in town; Harvey Dent is determined to put the mob behind bars. The fight will be even harder than first thought as a man known only as the Joker, isn't interested in financial gain. He's just interested in creating chaos and he breeds a new class of criminal.

The Characters: I'm not going to talk about the Batman character, as simply it's not the most interesting character in this film. Surprisingly. I am, however, going to talk about the "supporting" cast in this movie.

The Joker (Heath Ledger): This is easily the most intimidating villain in movie history. Even more so than Hannibal Lecter, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins. The voice, the look and the body language are all done superbly by Ledger. They blend together brilliantly in order to create a very believable psychopath. The back story of the Joker isn't touched in this film, as in the comic universe it's never been confirmed 100% of how the Joker came about. The Joker, in order to achieve his goal of killing the Batman he must employ the help of the mob. He doesn't have the money but he has the skill of intimidation and the callousness to frighten, even the mob into working for him.

Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart): I have to admit, I've never been a fan of Eckhart as most of his movies preceding Dark Knight have been mediocre at best. He wins my vote in his role as Harvey Dent; the fearless District Attorney who, thanks to the work by Batman is willing to put his life on the line to put the mob behind bars. His transformation from respected DA into the broken "Two-Face" is inspiring and really seals him as a legitimate actor and a legitimate role.

Gordon (Gary Oldman): Oldman plays a much bigger role as Gordon in this movie. He's someone who becomes more involved in shaping the Batman character from hero to vigilante. It's a much more likable role this time around and has bigger impact when confronted with the Harvey Dent alter-ego "Two-Face"

The Verdict: I honestly love this film. Unlike the first instalment, this never stops. From the opening we're treated to a great bank robbery that gives us the genius and craziness of Joker. This has it's truly heart wrenching moments, but I'm not going to mention them as they give away the plot. I was a little disappointed by the very small and quite frankly, pointless cameo of Scarecrow. Although a beaten shell of a man I would have liked to see him have a darker and more prominent role once again in this picture. Apart from that it's a non-stop genius picture and something that lives up to the hype. The role of Ledger lives up to the bill and is something that could win Heath his first and only Oscar. This makes it more unfortunate that we no longer have Ledger with us to feel the glory created by his Joker.

The Invincible Iron Man Animated Movie DVD Review

In The Invincible Iron Man, Stark Enterprise setoff a series of events that paved the way for the return of a cruel Chinese ruler called the Mandarin. By raising an ancient city above ground, five elemental minions of the Mandarin were released to gather the rings needed to bring him back. Meanwhile, a secret organization called the Jade Dragons whose sole purpose was to prevent the Mandarin's return, waged a terror campaign against Stark Enterprise at the ancient city excavation. But one of the Jade Dragons carried a secret that was passed through years of heritage that held the key to the Mandarin's return.

The problem with this animated movie was that it failed to stage a convincing showdown between magic and technology. On one side, there was Tony Stark as Iron Man, a super hero forged from the marvels of technology, bearing weapons that were capable of mass destruction. On the other side, there was the Mandarin, an ancient king who ruled iron-handedly with magic seeking to come back from death using the mystic arts. What's missing in the movie was an actual battle between the two forces. After leading through the events that brought back the Mandarin, we got a fight that was summarily concluded ending as if the movie makers ran out of time.

Perhaps this movie may not be that important in the world of comic book movies, animated or live action. However, after Jon Favreau's announcement that the Mandarin will be the main villain in the upcoming Iron Man movie sequel, it will be natural for many curious fans of the movie franchise to rent, buy or borrow the animated Iron Man movie DVD because it involves the Mandarin. Sadly, they will be disappointed.
